Ukonga Skillful Academic Performance
USOS has been performing well in all examinations that have been administered at school, regional level and national levels. We need to note that the main objective of USOS like any other open and distant non formal schools is to facilitate students who either performed poorly in their last national examination, dropped out from school or did not attend school completely get secondary certificate. Hence, for the students who had already sat for their first national examination, their performance is measured based on at least three credits (3 Cs) or four Ds respectively depending the demand of the student either proceeding A-Level or certificate later and diploma. For this afro mentioned group(s), their performance is always measured in terms of how many credits (Cs) that a specific student has. Students who seat for the first national examination at USOS; and those who repeat the sum of seven (7) subjects, their performance is measured basing on division. However, as expressed on the latter group, the performance of this group is also affected by the personal demand of an individual. The performance of most students in non formal secondary education is goal oriented in nature. Regardless of the psychological set up of these learners, USOS has been always having good results compared to other school in Tanzania. Here bellow are results for different programs
Winning strategy
USOS assures its students the best performance through the following strategies:
- Identification of student’s problem which at first might have contributed to one’s failure. We counsel and make a critical discuss with our students ones they join with our school until we identify the problem.
- Setting academic achievement plans. We employ a series of seminars and mentorship programs with the targeted student until we are sure that a desire for academic success is perceived by a student. With concrete and persuasive advice, we give a student reasons to why his/her good performance is very important and how it defines their future.
- Training of students on the best strategies employed in successive reading. Most of students fail in their final or last examination among many reasons because of bad reading mechanism. Majority of low level (secondary education) do not know how to read; and bad neither their teachers at school nor their parent cares about this. Both teachers and parents expect best results although non them (teachers and parents) is concerned with how their students can come out with good results. USOS with the notion of this problem has heavily invested on training its students on how best they should read both at school and at their homes.
- Effective school attendance; some of adult learners hereby including all secondary school students think that missing classes for one or two days is not a big problem. Researches have shown that a single minute missing of a class is equivalent to missing all the class of forty or fifty minutes. USOS has best mechanism of communication with parents/ guardians ones their student misses classes without notification.
- Diary reading/ studying; USOS uses diary so as to control its students’ private at their leisure time and home. Through such kind of reading we motivate our student much time private (personal) study but use sometimes for group discussion. We give assignment per day. Assignments are designed to test knowledge but also reflect national examination format.
- Counseling and mentorship programs; USOS conducts frequent workshops which tend to affect students’ psychological part and boost up their mental ability. We normally involve psychologists and influential people whose achievement was much contributed by their academic performance to counsel our students.
- Religious strategy, USOS uses religious as a weapon to take some unwanted information (luggage) from the memory of students. We believe on the presence of Almighty God and that He is the savior and grantor. We have special days for religious successions and in fact while in religious classes we use much create awareness on the don’ts like sexual relations, pride, laziness etc which when students get rid of such actions not wonted by God, they get much time to concentrate with classes while their brain has less disturbance.
